And it has much to do with how we approach our appetites also.
I don't like Brussels sprouts.
I know they are good for you, and I've eaten them ...but, I can't say I've enjoyed them.
To me, they look like that fancy soap ...and smell much worse. Now, I never had an appetite for foul language, or telling a lie ...so, I never tasted soap as some of you may have while growing up, but I imagine it doesn't taste very good. And I don't think Brussels sprouts do either.
Yet, if I was looking forward to a potluck ...it would be no problem to just pass up the Brussels sprouts, with so many options to choose from.
With a business meeting, or a legislative decisions ...there may be much less offered on the table. But, with a potluck there is usually no limitations given ...as we usually rely on other people's choices what to bring, and even then we don't really have to choose anything from the table. We can always consume all of what we brought.
Our appetite may be satisfied by what our eyes see, but we then usually look for a place to sit ...so we can fulfill our appetite.
We all have an appetite ...yet, to what degree and to what extent should we fulfill it??

First of all, we have to assess our priorities. I'm not at this time putting a value judgment on that ...it's just that it seems that the word 'proper' has been mostly replaced by the desire to 'please' oneself. And I think it's helpful for each of us to assess whether we believe that is true for us, or not.
So, we have a table to serve ourselves from ...but, the room usually has chairs also.
A table is most like another table ...and a chair is most like another chair.
But, they work well together ...having tables and chairs.
I think that's the best designed banquet room ...where you can sit in a chair at a table.
Now, I've already said I don't like Brussels sprouts ...and just smelling them kind of makes me gag. I certainly don't want to have them, but I understand some people do ...and also say they enjoy them.
Some people may say they'd just feel fine being in a room with all chairs and no tables ...they like chairs better. They can just have their plate of food on their lap.
On the other hand, some people may say they like tables better ...and they can just stand with their plate of food.
The particular point I'm trying to make is not that something is bad because it makes me gag. Someone may thoroughly enjoy a plate of poison mushrooms. And as you've probably already guessed, I'm not making a point about morels ...but, about morals.
But, not really about that either ...as moral standards are looked at according to what people feel is 'good'.
But, not really about that either ...as moral standards are looked at according to what people feel is 'good'.
God saw all that he had made, and it was very 'good'. What comes before this verse?
So God created mankind in His own image,
in the image of God He created them;
male and female He created them.
in the image of God He created them;
male and female He created them.
God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky and over every living creature that moves on the ground.”
Then God said, “I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be yours for food. And to all the beasts of the earth and all the birds in the sky and all the creatures that move along the ground—everything that has the breath of life in it—I give every green plant for food.”
And it was so. God saw all that He had made, and it was very good.
Yet, God commanded Adam, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil ..."
God tells us much about our appetites ...and He guides us in what we are to have, and what we are not to have.
And what we can look forward to is the Great Banquet, the Wedding Feast ...which Jesus gives us a glimpse of.
Yet, that glimpse is a clear and accurate glimpse ...of what Jesus has fulfilled for us, so we can be filled for the fullness of eternity.
